Eco Practice

Hotel Transit is a socially responsible organisation. We firmly believe in easing the strain a hotel exacts on nature and therefore have undertaken (Implemented) a number of proactive eco-practices towards achieving our goal.

Full Conversion To CFL

Energy efficient CFL (Compact Florescent Lighting) has replaced the power-hungry tungsten and halogen bulbs throughout the hotel (In all areas), including operations and staff areas. Compared to the conventional bulb, CFL technology provides 5 times more light while consuming only 1/3rd the energy.

Proximity Lighting In Public Areas

Public areas such as lobby toilets, lifts, corridors, etc, are now equipped with infra-red proximity sensors. A significant reduction in energy consumption has been achieved by these sensors which enhance the lighting from stand-by mode only when the area is being used.

Enhanced Key Tag

The old key tag technology has been upgraded in all guest rooms by which power is switched-off the instant the tag is removed. The industry standard of a 10 second delay was using ‘saveable’ power.

Heat-Repellent Curtains, Windows

Since the refurbishment, tremendous power savings are being realised in air-conditioning with all guest rooms now having new rubberised night curtains and thicker, tinted windows. The new additions prevent outside heat from entering the room thus requiring less air-conditioning energy for cooling.

Significant Paper Reduction

Hotel Transit has made a concerted effort to reduce its paper consumption by reusing office stationery and eliminating paper usage in other areas altogether such as brochures, flyers (We now send only e-newsletters), WC bands, etc.

Recycling Wet Garbage

Biodegradable wet garbage is directly composted in the landscaped gardens in and around Hotel Transit, totally eliminating the dependence on chemical fertilisers.

New Drainage Protects Ground Water

The sewage drains have been overhauled and refitted with a protective lining to prevent contamination of the ground water.

Reduced Usage Of Municipal Water

A new bore well has considerably reduced the dependence on municipal supplied water. In a water starved city that is Mumbai, our effort is part of the city’s drive to preserve the precious resource.

The bore well water is treated in-house and utilised for washing and other ancillary areas.

Green Initiatives

  • Beautiful birds like parrots, mynas, etc get attracted and perch on the outer side of the property.
  • Beautiful plant and creepers are growing on either side of the property.
  • The exterior surface has been covered by Thermal Insulating Layer to reduce loss of cooling and reducing the electricity wastage and losses.
  • We expect the energy saving to be to the extent of 20% reduction for all Compressor driven systems.
  • With the onset of the monsoon in Mumbai, rain water is being harvested at various location of the property. This harvested rain water is used for all general cleaning purposes thereby reducing the use of the water from the Municipal line, thereby reducing water wastage.
  • The entire façade of the hotel has been redesigned in an “ART DECO” style of Architecture, using soft earthy colours to allow it to blend in its natural surroundings.
